Dental Waste Containers

Dental waste containers are specially designed for the safe storage and disposal of dental waste, including amalgam, which contains mercury, a hazardous substance due to its toxic properties. Proper disposal in compliance with legislation is essential.

All our PureGuard™ dental amalgam waste containers feature a unique mercury vapour suppressant inside airtight containers. This technology minimises exposure to harmful mercury vapours, ensuring the safety of both staff and patients.

Mercury vapour is colourless, odourless, and tasteless, making it a hidden danger. If inhaled, mercury vapours can be absorbed by the lungs and enter the bloodstream, potentially leading to mercury poisoning. PureGuard™ technology uses colour indicators to show when mercury vapours have been absorbed, keeping your practice safe and compliant until they are collected by Initial Medical's expert local technicians.

Ensure your dental practice adheres to legislation and fulfils your duty of care by securely disposing of dental waste.

How is dental waste disposed of?

Dental practices produce a wide range of waste, from clinical and sharps waste to amalgam and gypsum. Correct waste segregation is vital to maintain a safe, compliant practice. Sharps, including needles and scalpels, must be placed in puncture-proof containers. Hazardous and non-hazardous waste may be collected in bags or other containers, depending on the type of waste.

Soft waste such as personal protective equipment (PPE), masks, gloves, and drapes can be placed in clinical waste bags. However, chemicals used in X-rays, pharmaceutical and anaesthetic waste may require more rigid containers.

Amalgam waste, which contains mercury, is collected in airtight containers and then sent to our dental waste recycling facility, where the mercury and precious metals are extracted and repurposed.

Types of Dental Waste Containers

Our range of airtight containers all contain mercury suppressants and are designed to hold all types of dental waste contaminated with amalgam, ensuring the safe storage of mercury waste as outlined in The Control of Mercury (Enforcement) Regulations 2017.

Initial Medical's Certified Mercury Vapour Suppressant

Mercury is an important element in UK dentistry and is still widely used despite concerns around its toxicity. Here is the science behind how we help you with the dangers of mercury.

Mercury Vapour Suppressant

The largest workplace concentration of mercury vapours allowed in the air, recommended by the World Health Organisation, is 50 μg/m.

Initial's mercury suppressant exceeds the guidelines, keeping your dental practice safe.
