Initial Medical provides clinical waste bins and bags, along with a collection service, to help you manage waste at your premises.
Our services include:
Our team can advise on waste segregation and help you identify suitable containers for waste that cannot be placed in a clinical waste bag. We also offer a range of rigid containers for liquids and waste that cannot be disposed of in the bags such as out-of-date medicines, agar plates, and glassware as well as specialist sharps bins. Bin delivery, routine maintenance, and scheduled replacements are fully included in your service agreement.
For facilities that need additional on-site storage between collections, we can also provide yellow wheelie bins, for the safe storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. Available in 240L - 1100L full range sizes and manufactured to EN 840 and RAL-GZ 951/1 standards. Designed for secure bulk storage of bagged soft clinical waste prior to technician pickup.
Our bag-lined clinical waste bins are designed for soft clinical waste, such as:
The correct bag and colour-coded configuration depend on the waste’s classification. Segregate waste at the point of disposal rather than mixing different waste streams.
Infectious clinical waste must be segregated from domestic waste. Any items contaminated with medicinal products or chemicals must be routed to the blue waste stream rather than standard orange infectious streams, in alignment with HTM 07-01 guidelines.
Do not place the following directly into these bag-lined bins:
These materials require dedicated containers. Initial Medical also offers rigid container and sharps bin ranges.
For safe containment of non-bagged items, please utilise our dedicated rigid container range for pharmaceuticals and liquids (blue), and our specialised sharps bin range for needles and blades (orange, yellow and tiger strip).
Our colour coding guide helps staff and clients identify the correct waste stream and keep different types of waste separate. The appropriate choice depends on what the waste contains and how it is classified, not simply where it was produced.
Bins utilise colour-coded lids and matching clinical waste bags to create a foolproof segregation system at the point of generation, complying strictly with HTM 07-01 legislation.
Need help with segregation? Our team can advise on the appropriate waste stream for your premises.
For extra support, review our Initial Medical waste colour coding guide to ensure proper waste stream segregation at your premises.. All operations adhere strictly to HTM 07-01 guidelines.
Consider these factors when selecting your bin:
If your premises produce several types of waste, you may need more than one container to keep the streams separate.
Partnering with Initial Medical ensures your clinical waste is managed to industry-leading safety standards and in strict compliance with regulations.
Uncompromising Compliance: Our ADR-licensed technicians ensure your waste is segregated, collected and disposed of in strict adherence to UK waste legislation and HTM 07-01 guidelines.

A clinical waste bin is a specialised container designed for the safe and secure disposal of clinical waste generated in healthcare facilities, laboratories, and other settings. These bins are an essential part of clinical waste management and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of staff, patients and the general public, as well as preventing environmental contamination.
The right size depends on your waste volume, available space and collection schedule. Our small bin is suitable for lower waste volumes or smaller working spaces, while our large bin accommodates 60-litre waste bags.
Clinical waste bags are provided as part of our waste collection service. Replacement UN-approved bags are replenished automatically during every scheduled collection visit by our technicians.
