Toilets have been many things to many people, not just places to do your business and wash your hands.
They’re places where people will read their favourite book, play on their phones and even hide from their boss – but who’d have guessed they’d ever use a toilet bowl as an eating receptacle?
While it might seem like an outlandish concept, one novelty cafe has been serving meals like spag bol and meatballs in variously shaped toilets.
The Jamban Cafe in Indonesia uses latrines to provide a buffet-like environment in which anyone can dip into as much food and drink as they like.
The issue behind the novelty
But while the cafe’s gimmick is a little hard to swallow for some, it addresses a serious issue for most people in Indonesia.
The country is beset with various hygiene problems, and much of the population lives without basic toilet facilities. The Jamban Cafe’s owner Budi Laksono said, “This cafe serves as a reminder that many people in Indonesia still do not have toilets.”
It’s a novelty cafe with a serious motive, and one that highlights the global need for exemplary hygiene no matter who you are.
Our washrooms are designed for any kind of environment, whether you own a bustling office or a restaurant with a novel theme. And while we won’t recommend you eating from our toilets, we can guarantee an extremely hygienic environment.
