Experts in Washroom Hygiene
Our washroom solutions enable your business to offer a high standard of washroom hygiene through our extensive range of products and services.
Sanitary waste disposal within the UK is governed by legislation. This ensures sanitary waste is disposed of in a safe and hygienic manner. The Workplace (Health, Safety & Welfare) Regulation 1992 recommends that all businesses should ensure all female toilets are provided with a suitable method for disposing of sanitary waste.

In addition, The Water Industries Act 1991 stipulates that no sanitary waste should be flushed away that can cause harm to the sewer or drain. The Environmental Protection Act 1990 also imposes a Duty of Care on organisations that produce, keep or dispose of controlled waste, including sanitary waste.
To ensure your business to fully adhere to their Duty of Care our feminine hygiene sanitary waste disposal service adheres to all legislation relating to the safe and hygienic disposal of sanitary waste. All waste transfer documentation is supplied to show compliance. This ensures your staff, visitors and customers know you take this sensitive issue seriously.

Sanitary waste needs to be managed carefully and with consideration for the environment. Initial is one of the first companies to recycle our sanitary waste. At present we currently recycle 15% of our sanitary waste through Knowaste. Knowaste are able to reclaim valuable plastics and fibres from sanitary waste and recycle them into new products such as roof tiles and injection moulded plastics.
With 95% of each tonne able to be recycled, we are pleased to include this green solution as part of our feminine hygiene service.
For the remainder of our sanitary waste we use landfill sites enabling it to biodegrade over time. We agree with Friends of the Earth* that incineration plants are an expensive and wasteful solution that actually damages the environment more than protects it. Friends of the Earth have produced a report on Incineration titled the ‘Dirty Truths’ which states that Waste Incinerators are being portrayed as a ‘green option’ for waste disposal however they actually produce green house gases and contribute to global warming.
