Landfill vs Incineration

Environment and Society

All waste must be disposed of in some form otherwise we would literally be swimming in litter! We can limit the waste that has to be thrown away by recycling but some materials just can not be re-used. The next option is to either use incineration plants to burn the waste away or put the waste in a landfill site for it to biodegrade over time.

Initial Washroom Solutions choose to focus on recycling as much material as possible and for the rest, including sanitary waste, we use landfill sites. We agree with Friends of the Earth* that Incineration plants are an expensive and wasteful solution that actually damages the environment more than protects it.

Friends of the Earth have produced a report on Incineration titled the ‘Dirty Truths’ which states that Waste Incinerators are being portrayed as a ‘green option’ for waste disposal however they actually produce green house gases and contribute to global warming.
