Tarmac selects Initial Facilities Services for multi-service solution

16/01/2009

Tarmac, the UK’s largest quarrying company and leading supplier of heavy building materials has awarded a multi-million pound, three-year contract to Initial Facilities Services. Under the agreement, Initial Facilities Services will provide a range of managed support services at Tarmac’s head office building in Wolverhampton as well as becoming the preferred facilities support services management supplier for more than 500 sites located across the UK.

Initial Facilities Services will combine its own in-house capabilities with outsourced services from elsewhere within the Rentokil Initial organisation and third-party suppliers. As a result, the company will provide an integrated management solution that offers a wide range of support services to handle Tarmac’s cleaning, catering, washrooms, pest control, window cleaning and security needs.

In addition to the head office building, Initial Facilities Services will provide managed services at Tarmac’s network of sites including office, industrial and laboratory facilities, as well as rock, sand and gravel quarries situated around the UK. The company will utilise eFM, an in-house information management system, to handle work scheduling and job allocation. This system will also enable Initial Facilities services to better manage the multi-site contract by accessing essential management information via an innovative reporting tool.

Around 45 members from existing contractors – based at two sites in Tallington, Peterborough and Ettingshall, Wolverhampton – will move to Initial Facilities Services under TUPE regulations, ensuring appropriate legislative compliance and employee protection.

Adrian Cook, Supply Chain director at Tarmac commented: “Initial Facilities Services will provide bespoke support services not only to our head office in Wolverhampton, but to a diverse and complex network of sites throughout the UK. The company’s management expertise coupled with the depth of its internal resources means that Tarmac can benefit from a truly-integrated solution.”

Alistair Nelson, Facilities Solutions Director at Initial Facilities Services said: “We have worked closely with Tarmac to develop a managed, multi-service offering that is suitable for its portfolio of locations within the UK. Our partnership approach has meant we have been able to deliver a solution that meets the precise needs of Tarmac using the expertise that exists within the organisation.”
