Lamek wins unsung hero award

Four years ago Lamek Chitondo, 63, left his wife and children in the Harare, Africa to come to Britain to find work to support them.

He came to work for Initial Retail Cleaning at Wolsey Place Shopping Centre in Woking, Surrey where his infectious smile has won him the centre’s Unsung Hero Award. He was nominated by the Retail tenants who also took into account feedback from shoppers.

He said: “I help with the upkeep of the whole place, but most of all I like the customer interaction. I enjoy meeting and helping people and they are all very appreciative.”

Centre Manager Richard Wheeler said, “Lamek is ever smiling, ever consistent, ever helpful and ever faithful – he loves Woking and is very happy here.”

Rod Booth Area Director for Initial Retail Cleaning said; “We are very proud of Lamek and he thoroughly deserves this award. I have been involved with this contract over ten years and we recently had the contract renewed for a further 5 years. The staff are like a small family and have been consistent during this time and Lamek is a clear example of the success of the first class customer service provided at Wolsey Place.”
