Under Waste Management Licensing Regulations 1994, it is required for clinical waste contractors to hold licences for all sites where the clinical waste will be retained.
The Department of Health document Safe Management of Healthcare Waste (HTM 07:01) also refers to the storage of clinical waste, and specifically to the likelihood that producers will require a waste management licence if storage times exceed stated periods. If this applies to you, obtaining a licence can be a lengthy and expensive process.
