Environmental Protection Act 1990

Environmental Protection

The Environmental Protection Act is an important and wide-ranging piece of legislation designed to prevent damage or degradation to our environment. Part II of the Act sets out legal obligations for the collection, disposal and treatment of controlled waste. It also deals with issues for licensing all waste management sites. Initial Medical Services is fully licensed in compliance with the Act.

The most important part of this law for waste producers to understand is the Duty of Care obligation, which defines broad responsibilities for waste management compliance - from use of the correct container or bag right through to final disposal. This is a complex requirement - and potentially litigious if any aspect is found wanting. We have experts on hand to deal with all of your questions about this.
