Workplace Injuries The Importance of Personal Protective Equipment

Figures from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reveal that an estimated 646,000 workers had an accident at work in the last statistical year, with an approximate £13.4 billion cost to society.

According to the HSE, slip and trip injuries were the most commonly reported, accounting for three out of every 10 injuries, leading to an estimated three million lost working days.

But it’s not only large, faceless corporations who are affected.

Recent research carried out by the insurance giant AXA has shown almost a quarter of small and medium businesses (SMEs) have had workplace injury claims filed against them, with an employee or former employee claiming against their Employers’ Liability Insurance in the past five years.

While the debate rages over whether the UK as a whole has a compensation culture– 84 per cent of employers believe it does, with 77 per cent blaming Claims Management Companies (CMCs) for this growing trend – it’s evident that organisations must still be equipped to deal with injuries.

Whether an employee suffers a slip or trip, contact with moving machinery or even a seemingly harmless paper cut, it’s important your company is armed with the appropriate equipment to administer first aid.
