P&O Irish sea

PandO

P&O Irish Sea operate a number of routes on the Irish Sea and pride themselves on delivering outstanding customer service on-board their ships in ‘style and comfort’.

They asked Initial Washroom Services to provide products and services for washrooms on a number of their ships and their Cairnryan terminal building.

The Challenge: delivering hygienic, first-class services

Their challenge was clearly to provide the numerous passengers on-board their ships with the most up-to-date washroom products, whilst having those serviced regularly with minimal disruption.

For The European Causeway and The European Highlander, especially, transporting up to 410 passengers each trip, 7 times a day, hygiene, comfort and service are critical.

The Solution: bespoke products and services from Initial Washroom Services

All washrooms on board the ships feature Initial’s new no-touch Sanitact Disposal units – which automatically open when hand movement is detected by a proximity sensor – nappy units, multi-vend dispensers, warm air dryers, toilet seat sanitizers, Solair airfresh units and Calmic Sanitizer units that provide on-going protection for urinals against scale build-up and bacterial growth.

Because the ships are extremely busy Initial provides a weekly feminine hygiene disposal service with other services undertaken regularly throughout the year.

The Results: P&O Irish Sea awarded for their commitment

David Blair, Operations Support Manager of P&O Irish Sea is delighted with the products’ performance and the service received from Initial. “We believe that the standard of cleanliness and hygiene in our washrooms is an overall reflection of the excellent facilities that we offer our customers. We aim to ensure that our washrooms are in the best possible condition at all times with frequent cleaning from our own team of cleaners and regular replenishment and maintenance services from Initial.”

P&O’s commitment to excellence has recently been recognised with two ships in the company’s fleet - the European Highlander and the European Causeway – which run between Larne in Northern Ireland and Cairnryan in Scotland – picking up five-star ratings in the Loo of the Year Awards, an annual competition run by the UK national tourism bodies. The ships’ washrooms picked up the award following unannounced visits by the competition’s judges and subsequently went on to win the overall Transport category for Northern Ireland.

The ships’ cleaning staff also scooped Northern Ireland’s National award for best in-house cleaning team.

“As sponsors of The Loo of the Year award 2006 we are delighted that P&O Irish Sea has picked up the awards”, says Margaret Croall, of Initial Washroom Services in Glasgow. “Our own research shows that an organisation’s washroom plays a vital part in customers’ perceptions of the business. It’s great to see a leading name like P&O recognising this and leading the way with new products, such as the no-touch units, which add to customers’ perceptions of a welcoming and hygienic environment.”
