Initial UK - Specialists in washroom, cleaning, facilities, and clinical waste services
Over 500 regular tasks, handled by our onsite team, help to ensure the quality of our daily bread.
British Bakeries supplies about one third of the UK's daily bread. Each of its facilities can produce over 8,000 loaves an hour, alongside products such as crumpets, fruit buns and croissants.
As in every food processing environment, hygiene standards are critical. Regular cleaning procedures, carefully planned and managed, are an essential complement to ongoing operations.
Initial Foodguard is British Bakeries' service partner at their key Birmingham site. We carry out over 500 weekly and periodic cleaning tasks, with a 35-strong hygiene team working 24-hours a day seven days a week.
Our proactive approach has seen us introduce new equipment, ranging from personal cleaning trolleys to high-level mobile vacuums and a fixed centralised dust extraction system which covers the two large silo rooms within the bakery. Enhancements like these have contributed significantly to faster, more efficient cleaning.
Our onsite team is managed day-to-day by a site-based Hygiene Manager, technical officer and team leaders covering shifts throughout the week. Additional off-site support is provided by our Operations Manager and our Technical Manager as required. Our Technical Manager, for example, oversees quarterly in-depth hygiene audits covering all site health and safety matters. Our central training resources are also readily available as needed.
Initial Foodguard also facilitates for British Bakeries the cost-effective delivery of a range of other services from our sister companies, including pest control, silo cleaning, office cleaning, window cleaning, grounds maintenance and catering.

Please do get in touch – we are always happy to talk about your needs and how we can help.
